Methodist. Also a member of the Free Masons.
He raised his family on a farm of
about 170 acres, on section 1 and 6 in Georgetown Township. He lived with his parents in Virginia until the age of 13.
The family then moved to Indiana, settling near the state line in Vermillion County. After his marriage, he settled his family on a farm in
Vermillion County, Indiana, and in due time purchased 166 acres of land. Later he sold this land
and moved across the state line into Illinois, purchasing a farm in 1855, of which
he cleared all but 15 acres. At one time,
served as Superintendent of the Georgetown, Illinois, School
District. Anderson and Elizabeth helped
create Lowe's Chapel Methodist Church on a parcel of their farmland as well as the Butternut School to the north of their
home. Although started after the purchase of their
property in the 1850's, the couple did not officially deed Niccum Cemetery into the Vermilion
County, Illinois, Recorder's office until April 23, 1892.

Methodist minister. She moved with her parents to Perrysville, Indiana, in 1830.
She was a member of the
Christian Church at Lowe's Chapel and the Lowe's Chapel Ladies Aid Society.

Enlisted in the Civil War in an
Indiana regiment. Entered service with the Union Army at age 17 on July 13, 1863, in
Perrysville, Indiana. He was a member of Company E of the 115th Indiana Regiment
which was attached to Mahan's First Brigade;
Willcox's Left Wing Forces, Department of the Ohio.
The troops mustered out of
Indianapolis, Indiana, on August 13, 1863.
