for George Washington Huddleston


Enlistment in Company K, 4th Arkansas Cavalry, a Federal unit.
(George had previously served the Confederacy in
Company F, 12th Regiment, Arkansas Infantry, enlisting
July 26, 1861.  He was taken prisoner and released upon
 parole at Port Hudson in July 1863.)

George spent the last 6 months in military prison
under a general court martial.  His discharge came as a result
of the muster out of his company in June 1865.  These
circumstances would create difficulties when he
applied for a Federal pension in 1900.

            In this that at the camps of the 4th Ark. Cav. Vols. on the 27th of March 1865 Private George Huddleston Co. “K” 4th  Ark. Cav. excited and caused a mutiny in Co. “K” 4th Ark. Cav. and resisted the lawful authority of 2nd Lt. Herman Hesse Co. “K” 4th Ark Cav., his Superior officer who being in the execution of his office, and that he the said Private George Huddleston, Co. “K” 4th Ark. Cav. persuaded the enlisted men of Co. “K” 4th Ark. Cav. to fall into rank and form the Company and in furtherance of this he the said Private George Huddleston, Co. “K” 4th Ark. Cav., joined the Company himself with his arms on and marched up with the Company to the Quarters of said Lt. Hesse Co. “K” 4th Ark. Cav., demanding from him the release of Private Alex McCaskill, Co. “K” 4th Ark. Cav., tied up by said Lt. Hesse for rebellious conduct at Roll Call, threatening that the Company would untie said Private Alex McCaskill unless said Lt. Hesse should do so.
