Funeral Services for
W. H. Frankum Will
Be Held at 4 P.M.
Funeral services will be conducted this afternoon,
Friday, at four o'clock for William Henry Frankum, the services to be held in
the chapel of the Wharton Undertaking Company.
Interment will be made in the Wharton Cemetery.
Mr. Frankum, who was 61 years of age, died Thursday morning of a heart attack
while attending to his duties as overseer and guard in
the blacksmith shops of the Ramsey State Farm.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Ada Frankum, five daughters:
Mrs. Arthur Wilcoxen and Mrs. C. M. Lamb of Wharton, Mrs. H. L.
Brown of Highland, Mrs. W. D. Johnson of Tomball, Mrs.
Lee McVeigh of Greenville. He is
also survived by three brothers, Jack and Charlie Frankum of Wharton and Jim
Frankum of Glen Flora and by one sister, Mrs. John Newlin of
Brady.
Ruby
Lee Johnston
Ruby Lee Johnston, age 92, was called to her Heavenly Home on January 22,
2001. She was born in Red Rock, Texas, on November 20, 1908, to Amanda
Lentz Frankum and William Henry Frankum.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Bill Johnston; three sisters; and a
brother.
Ruby was active in her church, Pleasant Hill Baptist, where she taught the
Dorcas Class for many years. She later attended Oak Meadows Baptist
Church. She loved her church family as if they were her sisters.
They shared the love of games and spent many hours together in Christian
fellowship.
She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Grace and Keith Harrington of
Houston, Glynda and Bill Wester of Elgin; sister, Ora Lamb of Round Rock; nine
grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was loved by all.
The family will receive friends between 1:00 and 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January
24, 2001, at the funeral home.
Graveside service will be held at Wharton Cemetery, in Wharton, Texas, at 2:00
p.m. on Thursday, January 25, 2001.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to Oak Meadows
Baptist Church of Hospice Austin.
Our thanks to her pastor, Ray Knowles, who was so good to visit while she was
homebound, to Lela Nuse who cared for her with the love of a sister, and to
Hospice Austin for all their support and help.

Frankum
Pollie Maggie Frankum, age 95, from Wharton died March 6, 1990, in
Wharton. She was born Sept. 26, 1894, in Ada, Okla., to Ben Alexander and
Mattie Chapman Duncan.
She married the late Charlie Richard Frankum on Feb. 26, 1911, in Red Rock and
was preceded by him in death on Jan. 18, 1965. Mrs. Frankum was a
homemaker and a 70-year resident of Wharton. She was a member of the First
Baptist Church in Wharton.
Funeral services were held Thursday from the chapel of the Wharton Funeral Home
with Dr. Donnie Melton officiating. Interment followed in the Wharton City
Cemetery.
Survivors include: daughters, Margie Watson from Wharton, Marie Watson
from Wharton and Merle Reynolds of Corpus Christi; sons, Gene Frankum, Bruce
Frankum and Theo Frankum from Wharton and Douglas Frankum from Houston; 49
grandchildren, 115 great-grandchildren and 64 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by five sons: Willie Verlon Frankum, Ben
Jefferson Frankum, Daymond Taylor Frankum, Clayton Richard Frankum and Wilbur
Ray Frankum.
Pallbearers were: Gene Frankum, Wayne Frankum, Floyd Ray Frankum, Duncan
Frankum, Randy Frankum, Earl Watson, T. L. Watson and Jody Reynolds.
Honorary pallbearers were all of her grandchildren.

Funeral arrangements were under the direction of the Wharton Funeral Home.
Bastrop
Native Dies in Brady
Funeral services for Mrs. Dora Newlin were held in Brady on January 18,
1974. Mrs. Newlin passed away on January 14, in Brady.
Born in the Watterson Community on April 6, 1891, she lived there until
1908. She was the daughter of Jeff and Sally Frankum.
In 1912 she was married to John Newlin of Brady and to this union two children
were born. Mr. Newlin preceded his wife in death by a number of
years. Mrs. Newlin is survived by those two children, Mrs. C. H. Stevenson
and Clinton Newlin, both of Brady, several grandchildren and great
grandchildren. Buddy Wilcoxen, minister of the Calvary Baptist Church of
Bastrop is her great-nephew.

In Memory of J. J. Frankum
J. J. Frankum was born in Middle Tennessee, Feb. 17, 1852, died July 17,
1912, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. John Newlin, in San Saba.
Deceased was married to Mrs. Sarah Sanders.
Brother Frankum was a member of the Cumberland Presbyterian church.
He confessed his faith at the early age of twenty five at New Hope,
Bastrop county, and has lived a devoted christian until the time of his death.
To them was born eight children, three girls and five boys.
One boy and two girls have preceded their father to the other shore.
All the other children except two were with their mother in her sad
bereavement to comfort her.
It is sad to part with those we love but God in his infinite power and
wisdom saw fit to call him home and we can only bow to his devine will and say
“Not our will but thine be done.”

CHARLIE R. FRANKUM
Charlie R. Frankum of Wharton, passed away in San Benito, Texas
on January 18 at the age of 73. Mr. Frankum was on a construction job for Brown
and Root at the time of his death.
He was born January 13, 1892 at Round Rock [sic], Texas and had
been a resident of Wharton for many years.
He is survived by his wife, Polly, three daughters, Mrs. Marie
Watson and Mrs. Margie Watson both of Wharton and Mrs. Merle Reynolds of
Brownfield; eight sons, Ben, Theo, Bruce and Gene of Wharton, W.V. and Clayton
of Brownfield, Ray of Victoria and Douglas of Bay City; one sister, Mrs. Dora
Newlin of Brady and forty-three grandchildren and thirty-five great
grandchildren.
Services were held on January 20 at 3:00 p.m. from the Chapel
of the Wharton Funeral Home with Rev. Harold Brantley and Rev. Alfred Nelson of
Bay City officiating. Interment was in the City Cemetery.
He was a member of the Emmanuel Baptist Church.
Pall bearers were A. S. Ross, Jack Doree, Walter Brandt, Monroe
Slaughter, Buster Kurtz and E. W. Reynolds.

Man Dies
Suddenly of Heart Attack
Expires while seated in chair after partaking of hearty breakfast
Soon after partaking of a hearty breakfast, R.
L. Frankum, age 67 years, died suddenly while seated in a chair at his home on
East Live Oak street this morning. He had suffered from heart trouble for some
time, but had been able to be about.
A native of Arkansas, in which state he was
born July 9, 1864, Mr. Frankum had been engaged in farming pursuits practically
all his life. Coming to Texas, he resided in Caldwell county for a number of
years, later at Lampasas and during the last decade in the McClanahan and Blue
Ridge sections of Falls county; before taking residence in Marlin.
Surviving are his widow, three daughters
Mesdames, Annis Peterson, Glenflora, Letha Densman, Lott and Ethel Ivey, Marlin
and three sons Ben Frankum, Stranger, Robert and Barney Frankum, Marlin. Also a
stepson Jim Nixon, McClanahan.
The funeral probably will be held
sometime Sunday.
Tuesday, July 5, 1932
The funeral of R. L. Frankum, who died suddenly
at his home in Marlin Early Saturday, was held at four o’clock Sunday
afternoon. Services were conducted at the family residence on East Live Oak
street by Rev. H. Y. Montgomery, pastor of the Full Gospel church, with burial
in Calvary Cemetery.

Aged Marlin Woman Expires at Home Here
Mrs.
R. L. Frankum, 78, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. G. W. Ivey, 113
Charles street, where she lived, about 2 o’clock Saturday morning after an
illness of two weeks duration. She had been in failing health for some time.
Mrs. Frankum was born and reared in
Caldwell County and after marriage lived in Lampasas
from whence, with Mr. Frankum and family, she came to Marlin about 1922. The
family were farmers all their lives until they became incapacitated for work on
the farm, when they moved to Marlin. Mr. Frankum preceded her in death seven
and a half years ago and was buried in Marlin.
Funeral services were announced for Sunday afternoon at 4:30
o’clock with service at the grave in Calvary cemetery, conducted by Rev. Smith,
pastor of the First Baptist Church. She was a member of a Baptist church.
She is survived by a son by a former marriage, Jim Nixon, another
son, Ben Frankum of Lott; Two daughters, Mrs. C. S. Densman and Mrs. C. V. Ivy
of Marlin; and two children of Mr. Frankum by a former marriage, Barney Frankum
of Marlin and Mrs. J. W. Peterson of Wharton County; thirty eight grandchildren
and a number of great-grandchildren.

Funeral Service for Aged Woman
Held
Funeral
services for Mrs. R. L. Frankum, 78, who died at her home in Marlin early
Saturday morning, were held at 4:30 pm Sunday afternoon at the grave in Calvary
cemetery. Services were conducted by Rev. V. H. Smith, pastor of the Full
Gospel church of Marlin and Rev. W. O. Wright, pastor of First Baptist Church of
Marlin.
Pallbearers were M. M. Allen, E. L. Walston, L. O. Hay, F. E.
Taylor, M. C. McWray, and Wesley McWray.
Mrs. Frankum had been a resident of Marlin since 1922, her
husband preceding her in death six and a half years ago.

MRS. W. H. FRANKUM
Mrs. W. H. Frankum, a long resident of Glen Flora, was called to her eternal
reward, after an illness lasting about one month, on Saturday night, June 6,
1931, shortly before midnight. During the last days of her life she was
confined to her bed at the family home, where a host of friends and neighbors
and her devoted loved ones ministered tenderly to her every need.
Mrs. Frankum, nee Amada (sic) Lentz, was born January 22, 1873 at Red Rock,
Bastrop County, Texas, being 58 years of age at the time of her death. At
the early age of fifteen years she united with the Methodist church in her home
community and through the years was a faithful member. On November 15,
1898, at Bastrop, Texas, she was united in marriage to W. H. Frankum. In
1912 they moved to Wharton County and settled at Glen Flora.
Ten children were born to the union, four having preceded her in death.
Those surviving her are her husband, Mr. W. H. Frankum and six children:
Mrs. Arthur Wilcoxen, Sam and Virgie Frankum of Glen Flora; Mrs. W. D. Johnson
(sic), Mrs. Herman Brown and Miss Ora Frankum of Wharton. One sister, the
last living member of the Lentz family, also survives and is Mrs. F. L. Rucker
of Hondo, Texas. There are also four grand children: Norma, Hazel
and Marvin Brown, and Donald Wilcoxen.
The services were held at the Glen Flora Methodist church Sunday afternoon at
3:00 o'clock, conducted by Rev. W. C. Pope, assisted by Rev. C. E. Poe of
Wharton. One of the largest crowds ever to gather at the church came to
honor one of their friends and neighbors who was long held in high esteem and
respect in the community. The pall bearers were: Messrs. Wilcoxen,
Clarence Williams, Earl Frels, Robert Schutte, Ross Newlin and Abe Kughn.

Beyond His love and care."

To the friends and neighbors who so graciously gave of their
love and services during the last illness and death of our beloved wife and

Mrs. Mattie Lena Frankum, 63, of Glen Flora, died at 7:17 a.m. Sunday in a
Wharton hospital. She was a member of the Baptist Church in Glen Flora and
had lived in Glen Flora for 34 years. Mrs. Frankum was born in Travis
County. She is survived by four sons, Major Frankum, Willie Frankum and
Raymond Taylor Frankum, all of Glen Flora, and Arthur Frankum, of Houston; six
daughters, Mrs. Loucille Wright of Houston, Mrs. Lillie Callaway of Granada,
Mrs. Nettie Dayvault of Beaumont, Cal., Mrs. Helen Duprey of Houston, Mrs.
Dorothy Sanders of Baytown and Mrs. Edna Wooley of Dallas; a brother, John Sims
of Red Rock; two sisters, Mrs. John Bradshaw and Mrs. Fannie Harris, both of
Austin, and eight grandchildren. Services at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Glen
Flora Methodist Church with Rev. Mr. Mitchell officiating. Burial will be
in Lake View Cemetery. Wharton Funeral Home.

Funeral for Chester M. Lamb, 66, of 3804 Clawson Road, will
be 1 p.m. Sunday at Wilke-Clay Funeral Home, Rev. Charles E. Stewart, pastor of
Kinney Avenue Baptist Church, officiating.
Graveside services will be 5 p.m. in Wharton Cemetery,
Wharton, with Buddy Wilcoxen officiating.
Pallbearers in the chapel will be L. B. Council, Sr., Jacob

Linnie Mae Brown, a
resident of Texas City, Texas, died on March 24, 1990, at Danforth Memorial
Hospital. She was 86 years old. Linnie was born June 15, 1903, in Bastrop
County, Texas. She was a housewife and member of the First Baptist Church.
Survivors are her husband, Herman Brown of Texas City; son Marvin Brown of
League City; daughters, Norma Simmons and Hazel Heiman both of Texas City;

Samuel Henry Frankum,
78, of Brazoria, father of Peggy Murff of Edna, died Thursday in a Brazosport
hospital.
He was born March 13, 1910, in San Saba, Texas. Mr. Frankum was a retired
worker of Brazoria County.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, at 2 p.m., at the Assembly of God
Church in Brazoria with the Revs. Norman Wilcoxen and B. F. Flowers officiating.
Burial will follow in Wharton City Cemetery under the direction of Baker
Funeral Home of Brazoria.
Surviving in addition to his daughter are his wife, Nancy Marie Frankum of
Brazoria; another daughter, Karen Ryman of Brazoria; five sons, Dalton Dean,

La Marque--Virgie McVay Tiner, 78,
of La Marque, died Wednesday at Danforth Hospital in Texas City.
Service will be 12:00 noon Friday at James Crowder Funeral Home Chapel in La
Marque with Rev. Buddy Wilcoxen officiating. Graveside services 4 p.m. Friday
at Wharton Cemetery in Wharton. Visitation will be 5:30 p.m. Thursday at James
Crowder Funeral Home in La Marque.
Born November 28, 1913, in Glen Flora, Texas, Mrs. Tiner resided in La
Marque for 20 years, formerly of Texas City and was a retired employee of Sears
Store in Galveston.
Survivors include her husband, Roland O. Tiner of La Marque; three
daughters, Faye Butcher of Houston, Ann Owens of Santa Fe and Joyce Thaman of
Dickinson; two sons, Earl McVay of Huntsville and Leroy McVay of Austin; three
sisters, Ora Lamb of Round Rock, Texas, Ruby Johnston of Austin and Ivy Wilcoxen
of Bastrop, Texas; eleven grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.
Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

Herman Lee Brown, 90, of Texas
City died July 29, 1994 in Texas City.
Services will be held 11 a.m. Monday at Wharton City Cemetery, Edward Frankum
officiating. Burial will follow under the direction of Emken-Linton Funeral
Home of Texas City.
Mr. Brown was born May 29, 1904 in Richmond. He was a retired plumber for
Mitchell Chouke Plumbing.
Survivors include a son, Marvin Brown of League City; two daughters, Hazel
Heiman and Norma Simmons of Texas City; two sisters, Evy Morrell of El Paso and
Maude Ridgeway of Austin; seven grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and eight
great-great-grandchildren.

72, of Brazoria, mother of Peggy Murff of Edna, died Tuesday in a Lake Jackson
hospital.
She was born Feb. 7, 1917, in Cedar Park, Texas. She was a homemaker.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Assembly of God
Church in Brazoria with the Rev. B. F. Flowers and the Rev. Buddy Wilcoxen
officiating.
Burial will follow in Wharton City Cemetery under the direction of Baker
Funeral Home of Brazoria.
Surviving in addition to a daughter are five sons, Dalton Dean, Edward Lee
and Bobby Frankum, all of Brazoria, Norman and Kenneth Frankum, both of Sweeny;
another daughter, Karen Ryman of Brazoria; a sister, Nadine Guin of Wharton; 24
grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Samuel Frankum, who died in 1988.

Frankum and Mike Ryman.

Walter Lee McVay, 65, of 2701
Main St. died Wed-nesday in Galveston County Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 10 a.m. at the chapel of the James
Crowder Funeral Home, the Rev. Leo Smith, pastor of the Highlands Baptist
Church, officiating.
Graveside services and burial will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Wharton Cemetery
in Wharton, Tex., under the direction of James Crowder Funeral Home.
Mr. McVay was born June 4, 1910, in Williamson County, Tex.
He was a resident of La Marque for the past five years and was a resident of
Texas City for 29 years. Mr. McVay was a member of the Baptist Church and a
retired employee of Houston Natural Gas Co.
Survivors include his wife, Virgie McVay of La Marque; three daughters, Mrs.
Faye Butcher of San Antonio, Mrs. Ann Owens of Alta Loma and Mrs. Joyce Thaman
of Dickinson; two sons, Earl McVay of Houston and Leroy McVay of Austin; a
sister, Margaret Dickerson of Grapevine, Tex.; and 12 grandchildren.
Honorary pallbearers are James L. Carroll, James W. Carroll, Bill Eubanks,
John Wesley, C. H. Phillips and Fred Aull.
Friends may call by the funeral home after 11 a.m. Thursday.

Heart Attack Fatal to Long Resident of Glen Flora

Jim
Frankum, who had made his home at Glen Flora for many years, died of a heart
attack at his home at 9:00 o'clock Tuesday night of this week. The body
was prepared for interment by the Wharton Funeral Home and funeral services
under their direction were held Wednesday afternoon at 4:00 o'clock. The
religious services were conducted by the Rev. Ed. T. Summers of Glen Flora and
the body was laid to rest in the Lakeside Cemetery. A large number of
friends and acquaintances were present at the funeral and the floral offerings
were profuse and beautiful.
Mr. Frankum, who was born in Bastrop on March 21st,
1880, is survived by his widow and 10 children, Arthur of El Campo, Major of
Glen Flora, Mrs. Claude Wright of Rosenberg, Mrs. Andrew Caloway of Ganado and
Nettie, Raymond, Willie, Dorothy, Edna and Helen Frankum of Glen Flora.
Two brothers, Jack and Charlie Frankum of Wharton, and a sister, Mrs. John
Newlin of Brady, are other members of the immediate family.
