Hodge Probate Records


Henry Hodge Sr. was the grandfather of  Dr. Henry A. L. Hodge.  Henry Sr. was born in North Carolina, moved his family about 1806 to Livingston County, Kentucky, where he died February 10, 1824.  He married twice, first to Catherine Bryant with whom he had 7 children, and second to Sarah Cotton Barnes, with whom he had another 3 children.

Henry Hodge Will

In the name of God, amen.

I, Henry Hodge of the County of Livingston and State of Kentucky being in health of body and of sound mind and memory do make this my last will and testament utterly revoking all former wills made by me.  1st as to my worldly matters it is my desire that all my just debts should be paid.  Secondly I give to my Daughter Marina a Negro girl named Fanny.  Also one bedd with common furnature and a horse bridle and saddle.  Also I give to my son Payton a Negro Boy named Dick with a bed and common furnature.  Also I give to my sons Robert Thomas William Henry James Allen with my daughter Sary Haynes Mariah Berry & Marina my three Negroes, Sam Lewis & Bradford also with Seven Head of Sheep (at the same time I ordain and appoint James Hodge my Executor in testimony whereof, I have hastened to set my hand and seal this 22nd March  in the year one thousand eight hundred and eighteen.  Thirdly I leave to my wife Sally all the rest and residue of my property both real and personal during her lifetime and at her death I give it to Payton.

At the same time I ordain and appoint James Hodge my Executor in Testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 22nd March in the year one thousand eight Hundred and Eighteen.
