Hodge Probate Records


William Hodge died about 1826.  In a letter written by Thos. Hodge (William's brother) and dated March 20, 1828, addressed to the Livingston County Court, a request is made that John Berry and Nancy Hodge be named Administrators of the William Hodge Estate.

 On April 7, 1828, Nancy Hodge and John Berry are named Administrators, with Thomas Hodge providing security and Josiah B. Hodge giving counter security.  The following document is  recorded in Livingston County Court, Book G, Page 372.

    KNOW all men by these presents, that we Nancy Hodge and Josiah B. Hodge are held and firmly bound unto the Commonwealth of Kentucky, in the penal sum of Two Thousand Dollars, to the payment of which well and truly to be made, we bind ourselves, our heirs, &c. jointly and severally, firmly by these presents, sealed with our seals and dated this Seventh day of April 1818.

    Whereas the above named Nancy Hodge, Admt. and John Berry Admt of the estate of Wm. Hodge dec'd hath been required upon the motion of Thos. Hodge [?] to give Counter Security, and said Berry [?] to give Counter Security and [?] Nancy Hodge and issued the above bond J. B. Hodge as Counter Security is received by [?].

    The Condition of the above obligation is such that now if said Nancy Hodge administrator of the goods, chattles and credits of William Hodge deceased shall {strikeouts & insertions make difficult interpretation here, see scan} more truthfully administer and make a  true, perfect inventory of all and singular, the goods, chattles and credits of the said deceased, which have or shall come to the hands, possession or knowledge of the said Nancy Hodge or into the hands or possession of any other person or persons, for her and the same so made, do exhibit into the county Court of Livingston, at such time as she shall be thereunto required by the said court, and such goods, chattles and credits, do well and truly administer, according to law, and further do make a just and true account of all her actings and doings therein, when thereunto required by the said court; and all the rest of the said goods, chattles and credits, which shall be found remaining upon the account of the said administrator, the same being first examined and allowed by the Justices of the said court for the time being, shall deliver and pay unto such persons respectively, as are entitled to the same by law; and if it shall hereafter appear that any last will and testament was made by the deceased, and the same be proved in court, and the executors obtain a certificate of the probate thereof, and the said Nancy Hodge do in such case being required, render and deliver up her letters of administration, then this obligation to be void, else remain in full force and virtue.
