Probate Records pertaining to the Estate
of Hulda Ellen Mason Ashley Volume
K, Pages 625-627 In County Court December Term A.D. 1892 To Honorable R. M. Siddall Now comes your petitioner, Wm. F. Ashley and States to the Court that he is the father of the following named and aged minor children, living all in said State and County. Thomas Ashley aged 19 years old. William Ashley aged 17 years. Mary Ashley aged 11 yrs. Burrill Ashley aged 9 yrs. Jasper Ashley aged 9 yrs. Robt. Ashley aged 7 yrs. Petitioner resides in said Bastrop County, State of Texas, that the mother of said minor children is now dead, having departed this life in or about April 1889. That said minor children inherit through their mother a small estate consisting of land and money about $40.00 in money and about 3 acres of land valued at $21.00 per acre, said land and money situated in Pike Co. Indiana. Said estate was the property of their Grandfather one Wm. Mason, deceased, whose estate is now being administered upon in the aforesaid Co. and State and said $40.00 is now in the hands of one Henry Wigs, Admr. of the estate of the said Wm. Mason, their great grandfather and holds the said money in trust for said minor children in said State and County. That said money is drawing no interest and that said minors are in need of same to buy clothing and to go to school upon. That said 3¾ acres of land is bringing in no revenue and doing them no good whatsoever. Wherefore petitioner prays the Court that he be appointed Guardian on the estate of the aforesaid minor children and for such powers as ae allowed by virtue of said appointment in the management of said property belonging to said heirs. Re: Guardianship
of Thomas Ashley et al Now comes Thomas Ashley and Wm. Ashley, minors in said cause, both being more than 14 yrs of age and waive the issuance of citation accept same and agree that this cause may be heard and acted upon at the December 1892 term of the County Court of Bastrop County.

The State of Texas To the Sheriff or any Constable of Bastrop County, Greetings. You are hereby commanded to cause to be posted for (ten days, exclusive of the day of posting), in three of the most public places in your County, one of which shall be at the Court House door, and no two in the same city of town, copies of the following notice. The State of Texas To all persons interested in the welfare of the minors Thomas Ashley, William Ashley, Mary Ashley, Burrill Ashley, Jasper Ashley and Robt. Ashley, know ye that Wm. Ashley has filed, in the County Court of Bastrop County an application to be appointed Guardian of the estate of said minors, which will be heard on the first Monday in February A. D. 1893 (the same being the 6th day of said month) at the Court house thereof in the town of Bastrop at which time all persons interested in said minors may appear and contest said application if they see proper. Herein fail not, under penalty of the law, and of this (??) make due return. Given under my hand and seal of office in the town of Bastrop the 21st day of December 1892. Attest: M. E.

Vol. L, Page 238 Now comes Wm. Ashley, guardian of the Estate of his minor children, Thomas Ashley, Wm. Ashley, Mary Ashley, Burrill Ashley, Jasper Ashley, Robt. Ashley, and represents to the Court that said minors are the owners of 3¾ acres of land, situated in the State of Indiana, Pike County, that they inherited said (??) from their Grandfather, one Wm. Mason, now deceased, whose Estate is now administered upon in the aforesaid State and County. And that the aforesaid 3 ¾ acres of land has been lawfully set aside to his minor children by the Probate Court of Pike Co., State of Indiana. That said land is worth about $25.00 per acre. Guardian represents that said land is bringing his children no income and is an expense in the way of paying taxes and that the children are greatly in need of means for their support and to enable them to attend school, he being poor, and having a large family. That it is to the best interest of his said children to sell said land. Wherefore he prays this Court for an order granting him the right to sell said land at public or private sale for cash or part cash and balance on time as he the said guardian may deem best so that the proceeds of said land may be used in supporting and educating his children as aforesaid. The State of Texas In the county Court June Term A.D. 1894 To all whom these presents may come, Greetings: Know ye, that William Ashley, guardian of the Estate of Thomas, William, Mary, Burill, Jasper and Robert Ashley, minors, having on the 3rd day of April, A.D., 1894, filed in the County Court of Bastrop County, Texas, his application to sell the following described land, belonging to said Estate, lying, being and situated in the County of Pike and State of Indiana, consisting of 3¾ acres of land inherited by the said minors from their grandfather, one William Mason, now deceased. Now, therefore, these are to notify all persons interested in said Estate of be and personally appear, at the next regular term of the Honorable County Court, to be ?? thereof at the Court House in the town of Bastrop on the first Monday in June , A.D., 1894, same being the 4th day of said month and there and then to show cause why such sale should not be made, should they choose to do so.
