Joseph Sheppard Mobley
b. March 4, 1839, in Newnan, Coweta County, Georgia
m. July 15, 1866, to Mary Caroline Morgan
d. January 28, 1914, buried McDade, Bastrop County, Texas

Among Civil War veterans who later moved to or near Paige:  Rev. Jess
Mobley, Coweta County, Georgia.
Co. A, 12th Georgia Batallion.  Enlisted 5/1/1862, Newnan, discharged for medical reasons 10/1862.  Re-enlisted 9/1/1863.  On furlough from hospital due to chronic diarrhea 11/1/1864.  Surrendered with Gen. Lee at Appomatox April 9, 1865.
Pioneer Baptist preacher at Ridgeway 1871-1903; farmer.
A summer session held in 1885 [at Ridgeway] ending Aug 5 had 91 pupils.
End of school speakers for the session included Rev. J. S. Mobley.
1910 Bastrop County census:  age 76, farmer, married 43 years.
Birth record of son William shows father's middle name "Shephard".

1910 Bastrop County census:  age 70, mother of 8 children, 7 living.
Father:  John Morgan.
Mother:  Mary Amanda Rice.
According to 1900 and 1910 census, both parents were born in Georgia.
Cause of death:  simply worn out.

Followed by a service at the McDade Baptist Church and interment in McDade cemetery.
